Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's departure from her family, she was brought to maturity by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. While a small child, Ford battled anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused by word associations. Ford began performing in her teen years and joined part of the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a week she decided it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford later applied for a place in the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her classmates. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however in the meantime she already had made her debut on television in the 1991 season in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate also performed regularly in the theatre, eventually becoming a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up comedy that she started adding to her repertoire in 1996, soon gained her attention.
